Keeping Projects on Dribbble: What Designers and Clients Need to Know

Updated over a week ago

Dribbble makes it simple for designers and clients to work together safely and efficiently. With built-in tools for payments and communication, we help ensure a smooth hiring experience. Here’s what you need to know about keeping projects on Dribbble:

Do all projects initiated on Dribbble need to be paid for through Dribbble?

Yes, all projects that begin with a Dribbble connection must be completed through our platform. This ensures we can offer both parties secure payments, fraud protection, data privacy, and other safeguards that help keep both clients and designers safe. This is outlined in our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

The only exception to this policy is for our Designer Advertisers and their clients. Learn More.

Why does Dribbble require on-platform payments and communications?

This policy is in place to protect both designers and clients from potential disputes and other project-related issues that arise when communication and payment happen off-platform. That’s why Dribbble now provides all the tools necessary to manage and complete design projects seamlessly within the platform.

Can I share my contact information in Dribbble messages?

Sharing contact information in Dribbble messages is not allowed until after the project has officially started and the first payment has been made. Sharing contact details before the initial payment is against our Terms of Service.

What counts as ‘contact information’ under Dribbble’s Terms of Service?

Contact information includes email addresses, social media handles, phone numbers, links to personal websites that contain contact information, and payment links.

What should I do if someone requests to pay outside of Dribbble or asks for contact information before a project has started?

Accepting payment outside of Dribbble or sharing personal contact information before a project has kicked off violates our Terms of Service and can lead to account suspension. If this happens, kindly inform the other party that keeping communication and payments within Dribbble ensures payment protection and allows both parties to transact securely.

If a request makes you uncomfortable, feel free to reach out to our Support team for assistance.

Are there any additional fees when you complete your project on Dribbble?

Dribbble does charge transaction fees for processing payments. However, in return, you receive a fully protected transaction that ensures secure payments and project completion. You can see a summary of the applicable fees for projects here: Dribbble Project Fees.

At Dribbble, we aim to maintain transparency and competitiveness in our fees. We take pride in offering some of the lowest rates available in any marketplace, which showcases our dedication to delivering high-quality service for both designers and clients.

As an added benefit, we also waive the Designer Platform fee for our annual Pro members!

What does Dribbble do with the fees collected from design transactions?

These fees help sustain and grow the platform, allowing us to develop new tools and features to support designers and enhance the client experience.
