Project Guidelines and Moderation

Updated over 3 weeks ago

At Dribbble, we believe in the power of communication and collaboration while also maintaining a safe and respectful community. That's why we have a human-powered moderation system that reviews:

  • Project Requests

  • Direct Messages

  • Service Requests

  • Project Briefs

Only the first client outreach is subject to moderation. All messages that follow—once the initial outreach is approved—are delivered normally.

Types of Requests We Allow

We allow any request that involves paid design or development work — whether it’s sent via a Project Request, Service Request, or Project Brief – provided it meets our guidelines (listed below).

⏱️ Most work requests are approved in under 10 minutes.

Types of Requests We Don’t Allow

We strive to ensure your project inbox is a safe and respectful space by actively blocking these types of requests:

  • Nonsense or ‘test’ requests

  • Requests offering products or services

  • High-volume requests (spam)

  • Unpaid work requests

  • Known scams

  • Anything against our site guidelines. We’ll block any illegal, profane, offensive or pornographic content. We will also block any message that appears to be bullying or harassment.

🛡️ We’re committed to staying ahead of scam tactics, but some can still seem genuine, so we encourage designers to do their own due diligence.

Types of Non-Project Messages We Allow

Our team works diligently to ensure that all valuable and relevant messages are delivered to your inbox. These messages could include:

  • Personal messages

  • Questions about your work

  • Any non-malicious message with unknown intent, for example: "hey!" or "app project". While these messages may be frustrating and appear low-quality, we don't want to stand in the way of any interaction that could have potential for your business.

Inbox Management and Reporting

Every inbox has reporting features that we encourage all designers to use. The more you use these features, the more refined our moderation will become. Here's when and how to use each:

  • Delete: For low-quality but non-malicious messages.

  • Archive: For older conversations, you want to refer back to.

  • Report: For any abuse, including scams and advertisements. We review every message reported as spam and use this information to train the moderation team.

⚠️ Users found sending these messages may also face permanent suspension on Dribbble.
